TariAn Merak (Peacock Dance)
Merak yaitu binatang sebesar ayam, bulunya halus dan di kepalanya memiliki seperti mahkota Kehidupan merak yang selalu mengembangkan bulu ekornya agar menarik burung merak wanita menginspirasikan R. Tjetje Somantri untuk membuat tari Merak ini.
Dalam pertunjukannya, ciri bahwa itu adalah terlihat dari pakaian yang dipakai penarinya memiliki motif seperti bulu merak. Kain dan bajunya menggambarkan bentuk dan warna bulu-bulu merak; hijau biru dan/atau hitam Ditambah lagi sepasang sayapnya yang melukiskan sayapnya atau ekor merak yang sedang dikembangkan. Gambaran akan merak jelas dengan memakai mahkota yang dipasang di kepala setiap penarinya.
tarian ini biasanya ditarikan berbarengan, biasanya tiga penari atau bisa juga lebih yang masing-masing memiliki fungsi sebagai wanita dan laki-lakinya. Iringan lagu gendingnya yaitu lagu Macan Ucul. Dalam adegan gerakan tertentu terkadang waditra bonang dipukul di bagian kanyunya yang sangat keras sampai terdengar kencang, itu merupakan bagian gerakan sepasang merak yang sedang bermesraan.
Dari sekian banyaknya tarian yang diciptakan oleh Raden Tjetje Somantri, mungkin tari Merak ini merupakan tari yang terkenal di Indonesia dan luar negeri. Tidak heran kalau seniman bali juga, diantaranya mahasiswa denpasar menciptakan tari Manuk Rawa yang konsep dan gerakannya hampir mirip dengan tari Merak.
